Microsoft Streets and Trips 2002

Whether you are attempting to get from San Ysidro, CA to St. Agathe, ME, or
just trying to get around unfamiliar
parts of Memphis, Streets and Trips 2002 should be able to get you there.
Commercial Routing
It also works very well for mapping out local addresses and putting them into
routes. For example, the local New
York Times distribution company uses it to map newspaper routes for new carriers.
Route size ranges from five to
285 stops. By simply typing in the street number, name, city and state, Streets
and Trips will pinpoint the location
of that addresses within about 100-300 yards of its precise location.
However, with the good there is sometimes some bad. And Streets and Trips has
a couple points that can be
annoying at times. The first one may come when trying to find an address and
the program tells you that the address
doesn't exist. You double-check the address and make sure it is correct and
everything is A-OK. The next thing you
do is try to find the street by an alternate means (I usually use Handy Map
street atlas as my back-up).
After you find the street using plan B, you go back to Streets and Trips and
locate the street manually. After you find
the street manually, you can click on it and a street name and number will normally
appear. However, it can become
a nuisance since it will not automatically locate some streets. The good part,
though, is that unless you use it heavily
(couple hundred addresses a week), you may never encounter this problem.
The second of the two annoying glitches I've found deals with coves. Ideally,
when typing in the address, you type the
entire address (e.g., 1437 Central Ave., Memphis, TN). However, if you find
yourself making up a route with 150 or
more stops, you'll find yourself taking shortcuts. The easiest way, using the
previous address as an example, is to
remove "Ave" and "Memphis" (i.e., 1437 Central, TN). The
program then selects all the streets in Tennessee that have
the address of 1437 Central (normally not that many) and lists them alphabetically
by city. It will list just anything with
1437 Central (Ave, Dr, Ct, St, etc.). However, the annoying part is that won't
list coves unless you specifically type in
"cove" or "cv." In this example there isn't a 1437 Central
Cv.
