Teach yourself Microsoft Windows Me in 24 Hours
reviewed by Maury Ellis
The gift of a new computer loaded with Windows Me prompted me to search for
user information. After a quick perusal of the book I decided it might furnish
the answers I needed.
The book is not for the student looking for Computers 101. It does not contain
a dissertation on Microsoft Word, Corel Word Perfect or other similar programs.
It does detail in clear basic language the steps to accomplish various tasks.
The title does not mean the reader will master Windows Me in twenty-four hours.
The book is divided into twenty-four one-hour sessions to become familiar with
certain tasks. Each session starts with a brief description of the material
to be covered. Then follows a series of detailed "to do" steps to
lead the reader thru the process of accomplishing a task. After a brief summary
of the material covered, including a series of "questions and answers,"
there is a "workshop" that includes a "quiz" and some "exercises."
The "workshop" section is usually not included in the one hour time
period.
Each one-hour session is fairly independent and you can pick and choose the
material to be studied. However, after completion of a session you should be
well versed on the subject.
The appendix has a excellent Glossary and answers to the various quizzes.
The Me program has a expanded "help" section and I found Hour 6 valuable
with its level of detail. In particular, I value the directions for help on
the Internet.
Hours 19, 20 and 21 cover tasks that many of us fail to do with regard to updating
and maintaining our system. Hour 24 has a list of very helpful tips.
Many Me tasks are identical or similar to previous Windows programs but there
are some changes. I highly recommend this book for a new Me user. You'll develop
familiarity and confidence with the program. The experienced user will find
it useful as a information source.
